The religious Community of St. Martin (La Comunidad de San Martin) is a Eucharistic
community with roots in the struggle of Central City Lutheran Mission to become an inclusive
and welcoming community of faith. Because of its solidarity with the poor, Latin and African
American people and GLBT leadership, Central City Lutheran Mission was removed from the
roster of the ELCA congregations in 2004. The Community of San Martin has grown into an
independent international organization, working both in California and Mexico. With “La Obra
de San Martin” in San Bernardino, California, and pastoral work in Guadalajara, Mexico, the
Community of St. Martin, through action and reflection, seeks to establish a modest presence
“among the poor.”.
